Introduction to the Cold War

Now that you have watched a brief introduction to the Cold War, you are going to read more about important events in the early years of the Cold War.  Follow the directions below:

1. Go to the website: http://theomahaproject.org/module_display.php?mod_id=16&review=yes
2.  Read the section titled "Winston Churchill: Iron Curtain Speech."  Review the actual text of Churchill's speech and answer the accompanying questions.
3. Read the section titled "Truman Doctrine (1947)." Review the text and answer the questions.
4. Read the section titled "George Marshall: The Marshall Plan (1947)." Review the text and answer the questions.
5. Read the section titled "Defense Alliances: NATO Treaty and Warsaw Pact."  Review the text and answer the questions.
6. Review the Cold War Maps and write down one observation about the change in the maps between 1959 and 1982.

When you are finished, turn your answers and observation in to the teacher and get the assignment sheet for your Cold War project.

Today you are going to explore the events and causes that led to the outbreak of WWII.  First, click this link and watch the google earth tour.  Then click on each event to read more details.  Once you have read the events, write down three things you learned and bring to Miss Berliner to get the second part of the assignment.
